Bridge Teach-Ins in aid of fundraising for the England Junior Teams

posted 17 Jun 2018, 12:28 by Unknown user

Four Junior teams from England have qualified to play in the Junior World Teams Championship in China in August. Four players, Kyle Lam, Kripa Panchagnula, Liam and Jamie Fegarty, are members of CBC. Well done to them!   However fundraising is needed to help get our teams to China.

The Cambridge Bridge Club is organising a series of bridge teaching sessions that will be run by members of the club directly involved with Junior Teaching. We welcome the attendance of players from all local bridge clubs. Any standard of player is welcome as the expert players will tailor their lessons to be suitable to all levels. There is no need to come as a partnership as hosts will be available. We have organised the following sessions:

·         Tuesday 26th of June, 7:30 PM, Chesterton Indoor Bowls Club, Logans Way
CB4 1BL:   Paul Barden and Alan Shillitoe will lead a class on defence and signalling. Paul and Alan run the Junior Squad Training Week-ends and will do their best to offer you an authentic experience!

·         Monday 2nd of July, 10 AM, Trumpington Village Hall, 75 High St., Trumpington, CB2 9HZ:    David Kendrick and Paul Barden will focus on declarer play. David has completed a rare `trifecta’ having won the Junior Camrose, the Camrose and the Senior Camrose. This year David and Paul have also won the National Pairs. As an extra treat we will be offering a selection of delicious pastries!

·         Wednesday 11th of July, 7:30 PM, St Andrew’s Hall, St Andrew’s Rd, Chesterton, CB4 1DH:    Paul Fegarty and Catherine Curtis will discuss bidding. As a long and very successful bridge partnership, Paul and Catherine will share some of their insight into partnership bidding. Their boys, Liam and Jamie, will be competing in China for the Under 16s

Our junior players are very keen to also participate in the classes so you will get a chance to get to know them!

The expert players have volunteered their time for free. The charge per person is £7.50, of which £6 will be donated to the EBU fundraising effort. We would really appreciate it if you could get back to us via email if you would like to attend (please reply to Carina Negreanu at vicech02@cambridgebridgeclub.org). We are hoping that the events will be quite popular and it would really help us to know numbers. If it appears that one or more venues are in danger of being oversubscribed, those who have not replied may miss out.

We hope to see many of you there!
